Leg days always consist of LOTS of heavy compound barbell and dumbbell work, BUT, I’ve had a love for high volume glute work. Nothing like a good ol booty pump! _ Cable pull throughs! These are GREAT to isolate the glutes. Many guys (sorry dudes) tend to neglect glute work. Ever since putting attention and love to them it’s transferred over onto other lifts such as my squats, deadlifts and hip thrusts. If you aren’t training your glutes than your missing out on A LOT of strength and muscle gains. Strong glutes will lead to strong lockouts, explosive power, control and stability throughout deep squats and hinge movements plus many many more benefits. And well who doesn’t want a nice booty! _ Tips: 1. Set the cable at the lowest setting with a single hand grip or tricep rope (whichever you prefer), face away from the cable stack, grab the handle between your legs and take a few steps out to create resistance, keep your feet outside shoulder width, knees inline over your toes the entire movement, this is your starting position 2. Begin the movement by reaching as far back as possible between your legs, bend at the hips and keep a slight bend in your knees, if you feel any pressure lower on your lower back then your simply stretching to deep, work in YOUR range of motion 3. Keep your arms straight and ensure not to pull the weight up with your arms or shoulders, all motion comes from the hips 4. Extend through your hips and squeeze your glutes at the top, ensure not to over extend the back at the top, keep the entire body in a straight line from head to toe at the top of the movement 5. But this is a long time client she can rock it with a dumbell. Notes: Make sure you keep you shoulders stacked over your hips. Don't go any lower than a 90Degree bend on you elbow. Still to this day it is one of the most potent core drills we have in our training programs. Adding weight to the drill should be reserved for advanced trainees. As the body elongates and the shoulder moves further into flexion, the core has a greater demand.
