We played a fun writing game for a lesson this afternoon! It is so exciting to work with more proficient students (especially when they were your first grade students years ago 😮). This game helps build confidence in writing as it progresses through various stages of difficulty.
1. Flip two cards and student chooses the topic to write about. For one minute you write a list of words in that category. If you both wrote down the same word you only get one point, if not then you get two points. We played four rounds of this just to get warmed up.
2. Pick a card to answer a short writing prompt. These are all based on mastered vocabulary, mostly writing about the student’s own life.
3. Pick a card with a more challenging prompt which include a variety of writing genres. Today we wrote about three things that the student would want to change about his school. 👍🏼
The time flew by and there was very little push back of “I don’t know how to write in Spanish” because the game really built upon itself! 🙌🏼 As a teacher of mostly novice students- I am mostly excited to be able to have full conversations and to teach my student that writing can be such an amazing thing!!! My son was also very into the writing lesson today 😜
I’ll be posting this game as a freebie! #TempeArizona#spanishrocks
