Should you take supplements? • 👍 Pros: •
1. Can be helpful on the go - Living a busy life means you aren’t always going to be able to eat healthy. Having supplements to prevent you cheating on a diet is a god send e.g having a protein bar instead of chocolate bar, while you are at your desk at work.
2. Can help you achieve your fitness goals - Certain Supplements such as Creatine monohydrate has shown to help you improve your strength when it comes to lifting weights.
3. Supplements can help you with any deficiency - If you physically can’t eat the food and you feel you don’t get enough of certain vitamins or minerals, supplementing may beneficial for you.
4. Based on individual circumstances - Supplements should only be used, if you believe they are right for you. I.e you have to really assess, whether Supplements are true right for your lifestyle and what your personal fitness goals. •
👎 Cons •
1. Not needed to build a great physique- To be honest, supplements are not needed at all. Hard work, consistency and patience with your training and diet is 98% of the game. •
2. All nutrients can be gained from food. FOOD, FOOD AND MORE FOOD. Back in the day, they were hardly any supplements about, now they are freaking loads! Don’t believe the marketing hype and pretty colours on the front on the label. Look at the ingredients at the back of the tub and decide if you truly need the supplement.
3. Expensive and waste of money - When I first started lifting weights, I spent too much money on supplements, thinking this would be the magical pill. If you are beginner supplements should be the last thing you should consider when getting into 🏋️♀️ lifting weights.
4. Diet is the most important thing - Diet is the key to success! Depending on what your goals are, track your food on a daily basis to see if your macronutrients are right. If you are bulking, are you eating enough good calories? If you are cutting, are you eating enough protein, vegetables and good fats? Get this right first before you touch a supplement 🙌.
